Who, or *what*, is George?

Got a theory about a storyline? Think you know what's coming next? Talk about it here!

Also:

Atla is George's twin brother. He wears the robes to conceal himself from scrying magic, which would casue all sorts of confusion over their being twins. He takes a more direct tack than George, aggressively trying to drive Terek Domar out of Ylelon. His leverage is that he has stolen Terek Domar's hoarde and hidden it with a "contingency plan," wherein it will be destroyed if anything happens to Atla. The only thing greater than Terek Domar's hatred of Atla (and George) is his avarice, so he cannot strike out against Atla.

Terek Domar came to Ylelon for its material weath, manipulating the people of the land into making it rich. It began a campaign of destruction against both the native people and the monsters of the land to make it more habitible for forigners more capable of extracting the mineral riches from the Sentinel Mountains.

Ylelon is infested with the supernatural because the wickedness of Terek Domar and its magical nature as a dragon draws them near. If Terek Domar can be defeated or driven out, Ylelon will beomce a much safer place for mortals.

Of course, none of this is true. Or all of it. Or tiny snippets are true. We'll just have to wait to find out. By "we", of course, I mean "all of you."

Just don't be donald rumsfeld.

We don't know where. We don't know when. But something terrible is going to happen.

... to the main characters.

I have it! George is.....*pauses for drumroll*.... a man! Now this topic can rest in peace :D

If it makes anyone feel any better, BI won't even tell ME who/what George is. I'll have to find out like everyone else. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing...

To be honest, I'm more curious about Master Pana.

I started reading Book 6 today, and this line struck me:
BIF wrote:“You forget, my young friend,” Master Pana said through a gentle smile. “I was a part of this team
for many long years, even before you were born.”

If that is true and was meant to be and not something that was supposed to be caught in an edit (which I doubt), it indicates that either Pana is ancient or that George is not old at all.

If Pana is ancient and 'part of this team before George was born' that means George is at best a Captain or Sergeant in the war. Still a commanding officer using ancient and usually outdated military techniques ("don't tell the grunts the plan until they are about to do it, and don't tell them any one else's plan" which is perfectly acceptable for THEM since they're not necessarily fighting mundane means of recon).

Which implies that George has all the rights in the world to fear Terek Domar. He seems pretty high up on the 'bad guy' pecking order.

I see George as less the founder of the team and more as one of the Good Old Boys who just happens to still be alive. I think he looks older than he is just because of everything he's seen and done in his life. From what I gather from his inner monologues, he was originally a solo operative who was inducted into the team at the point where he became enough of a force to be governed directly by the Truce, though I still don't pretend to know what all that is about.

Naturally, I could be wrong. Probably am about something up there. And none of it prevents the idea that Master Pana is some ancient being of uberness.

Of course, looking it up, that comment you quote was directed at Will, who I'm pretty sure is in his early-to-mid 20s. Even if Master Pana is only 45, he could have still been a member in his own youth before Will was born.

Yeah, kinda skewed all the thoughts I had at first up there. That whole first paragraph is now obsolete.

George could be one, but the evidence for it is lacking. We see only an affinity with mechanized ducks, and while he does express surprise at having an echo in his yard, mundane ducks actually do have a quack which echos, so that myth does not provide adequate support for the conclusion.

Maybe I am... :P

I almost thought for a while that he was the spirit of the land itself, but then I'd figure he'd have known where the Kad was the entire time, so I scrapped that.

I still like the house theory. Imagine his horror as in his homeland, Terek Domar burninated all of his relatives and the villagers occupying them.

I'm not too keen on the dragon theory at this time. Dunno, just doesn't seem as likely. We now know that were-creatures at least maintain equal mass in all forms, so other shape-changing may also, and that means 1) George has the strongest house ever built on the firmest ground ever packed,as he never sinks into the lawn or crashes through the floors, 2) George is a really tiny dragon, 3) George levitates part of his mass all the time, 4) George is not a dragon, or 5) the assumption of constant mass for all shape-changing is inaccurate.
